It's a great opportunity to get training advice from the world's best. Olympic gold medalist and Riga resident Jenn Suhr is teaming up with the U of R Medical Center to talk about injury prevention.
Olympic pole vaulter Jenn Suhr won gold last summer in London. She is now sharing her experiences with local athletes, coaches and parents about proper training and injury prevention.
Suhr is recently back from Albuquerque, where she set a world indoor record in the women's pole vault at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Suhr has a couple weeks off before her outdoor season begins in April.
She is spending her time educating young athletes about the steps she takes to prevent injuries. Suhr is teaming up with Dr. Michael Maloney, who heads the U of R Medical Center's Sports Medicine Program, offering a free clinic aimed at teaching kids, coaches and parents proper nutrition, how to warm up, stretch and stay healthy.
Jenn Suhr, Olympic gold medalist, said, “To be able to answer questions and respond to things. This is a great opportunity for parents and coaches. They can help their children warm up properly and injury prevention is so important.”
Dr. Michael Maloney, chief, URMC Sports Medicine, said, “For her to be able to talk about her path to the gold medal. They see the ceremony, they might not appreciate the ups and downs to get there it's true for every athlete.”
