ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Buffalo Bills are open to trading safety Jairus Byrd.

According to Schefter, sources say the team now believes a trade is the "wisest course of action." Relations between the safety and team have been tense since the offseason when the two sides could not come to agreement on a long term contract. Byrd was seeking a long term deal, but the Bills opted instead to use its franchise tag on Byrd.

Since that time, Byrd has not been afraid to express his displeasure with the lack of a long term deal.

Last month, Bills CEO Russ Brandon denied rumors that Byrd had requested a trade and said that trading Byrd was not "a topic of consideration."

Byrd led the AFC in interceptions in 2012, but has not played a game so far this year due to a foot injury.
