Marcell Dareus is back in a Bills jersey for the first time at Buffalo Bills Training Camp and he was under the lights. It has been quite the week for the Pro Bowler.
Marcell failed his conditioning test on Saturday. He went to Alabama on Monday to attend a court hearing for felony drug charges, came back to Rochester on Tuesday, passed his conditioning test on Thursday and is finally on the field. But he is still not talking to the media.
After an off-season filled with legal trouble, Dareus made his first appearance at Buffalo Bills Training Camp. Dareus took reps with the first team, but as for talking with the media, he left that up to his teammates.
Kyle Williams, Bills defensive tackle, said, “It is good to have him back. We have got a long way to go to get ready for our season. We need him to play for us. He is a big part of our puzzle. It is good to have him back and get him in the swing of things.”
Coach Doug Marrone was brief when addressing Dareus’s situation. Marrone said he is happy to have his Pro Bowl defensive tackle back in the mix.
Marrone said, “I take it day by day. Every day we get here, just like with a lot of the players, just take it day by day and just try to focus on football and get better as a team. You go to sleep at night and you wake up the next day and you go about it again. “
Williams said, “I think this will probably be the end of it. He's back out here on the field, he passed his conditioning test and we're ready to go. We'll see how everything pans out with all of the off-field stuff. I'm sure there will be a day for that. But right now, the good thing about it is that he's in pads, we're practicing and he's ready to go.”
The offense will want to improve at Saturday’s practice because once again it wasn't clicking. Sammy Watkins was great as usual, but we saw a lot of miscommunications. Doug Marrone has said several times he wants a better performance, however, EJ Manuel won't seem to admit, at least publicly, that the offense isn't sharp just yet. After practice, EJ wasn't thrilled with questioning.
