The Wednesday Pro-Am is happening today at the Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford and round one of the competition begins Thursday. It’s an event that wouldn't be possible without the hundreds of volunteers in our community.

From course marshals to security to people picking up trash on the course, volunteers do it all at the Wegmans LPGA and there are about 1,200 of them that make it all happen.

“It's like a big family reunion every year at the LPGA.” Roger Lonneville is from Shortsville. He's been volunteering at the Wegmans LPGA Championship for nearly a decade. “Doing it so many years, you get so you know all the golfers that are in the tournament and it gets so they even recognize you once in a while!”

This year he's working security, pointing people in the right direction. “We make sure that the proper people get into this parking lot and all the spectators that are coming in go into the expo tent and pick up their badges and everything before they go into the course.”

“There's no way that we could run this event without our volunteers. They’re crucial to the success of this event. Jim Garvey is the Wegmans LPGA operations director. He says about 50 to 60,000 volunteer hours go into making this tournament happen each year and it’s no cake walk. Lonneville said, “We usually work full shifts -- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the tournament so it will be 12-hour shifts.”

But they do it all with a smile and most of them pay to do this. The fee is $60. Lonneville said, “I just enjoy being here. Weather doesn’t' make. Rain or shine, we'll be there.”

There is still time to head to Monroe Golf Club to enjoy the Wegmans Pro-Am. Tomorrow is the big day – round one of the Wegmans LPGA gets underway. Click here for tee times.
