Whether it's spring or fall, you can find Victor's Tommy Ryan on the field in the biggest situations: A Sectional championship on the football field as a junior and a key hit on the diamond to upset the number one seed in the Sectional tournament last spring.
Tommy says, "I got out in front of a pitch and was able to get the end of my barrel on it, it wasn't the hardest hit but it fell in there."
A keen eye to locate and identify the right pitch to swing at translates over to the classroom for Tommy. He plans on studying pre-med in college and says that he wants to go that route because of the science courses he's taken.
"What really turned me on to the possibility of a pre-med track is tenth grade anatomy," he says. "I was interested in the dissection and memorizing of that course."
He adds, "I enjoy the science courses, I've taken most of the AP science courses."
A two-sport varsity athlete and a member of the National Honor Society, Tommy has some advice for kids looking to find their niche in school.
"Try and do as much as possible, be as balanced with activities as possible," says Tommy. "It helped me gain a lot of character and become a better student and an athlete."
Keep doing great work, Tommy. Congratulations on being named the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
