The Victor High school hockey team advanced to the state championship game for the first time in school history. Sunday afternoon at the Harbor Center in Buffalo, they battled it out with Niagara Wheatfield in the state final.
The Section V champion blue devils enter the game undefeated, but Niagara Wheatfield aimed to change that. Five minutes into the second period and Zack Belter rifles it past Chayse Ierlan for the 1-0 lead.
Victor secures the evener three minutes later as Sam Lambert finds the back of the net.
The blue devils will then head into second intermission with the lead thanks to an unassisted goal by Josh Albert.
In the final frame of the game, Victor will put up three more goals while goaltender Chayse Ierlan stays strong in the crease. He won't allow any more past him.
The blue devils win by a score of 5-1 and secure their first hockey state title in school history. They also finish this season undefeated with a final record of 22-0-4.
