They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that is especially true for kids.
Thursday morning, Mayor Tom Richards and Rochester City School Superintendent Bolgen Vargas spent the morning serving breakfast to children at the Thomas P. Ryan Community Center. It's all part of the summer food program which is lead by the Department of Recreation and Youth services and the Rochester City School District.
The program provides free breakfast and lunch to kids under 18 during the summer months.
Mayor Richards said, “It's not just that it's available but that it's good for them and that it's consistent. It's always there. These kids are having a great time it's a good place for them to be, it's a safe place for them to be."
Mayor Richards says the program will server more than 100,000 meals over the course of the summer.
