ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Tuesday night we told you about a shooting on North Clinton Avenue, and Ketchum Street that sent a 39-year old man to the hospital. He’s currently recovering at Strong Hospital.

News10NBC talked to the mother of the victim, and hears about her frustrations when it comes to gun violence in the city.

Jacquelyn Ficklin told us she’s angry with city leaders who proudly say guns are being taken off the streets, but people like her son are still getting shot nearly every day.

“I’m so sick, and tired of the violence in the city, but when it hits home, it broke me, because I didn’t see it coming,” said Ficklin.

She tells us it was her son Terrick who was shot, and wounded on North Clinton Avenue around 10pm Tuesday night.

“I got a phone call in the middle of the night. My eldest had called and said mom T.J. just got shot, and I said what do you mean he just got shot, and I was in my sleep, and I was stunned,” said Ficklin.

As her son recovers in the hospital, Ficklin is calling out city leaders.

“You just sit up there and just said you got all the guns off the streets. How is it every time you turn around it’s somebody just getting killed every day? It has not stopped. When it’s going to end?” said Ficklin.

She says she’s wants to see churches, and the community come together to put an end to gun violence. She also has this suggestion for our leaders in office.

“They got to listen to these young people. Stop judging them. Okay if they made a mistake, instead of beating them up, what they did, listen to them,” said Ficklin.

The Mayor declared a Gun Violence State of Emergency back in July. It’s still in effect today. So far police have not made any arrests in this shooting. If you have any information, call 9-1-1.
