ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police are investigating two shootings that happened minutes apart Tuesday evening.

The first happened on Rochester’s west side near Brown Street and Eddy Street at around 5 p.m.

Police say a 31-year-old man was shot in the upper body. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.

Then on the east side, just after 5 p.m. police received several reports that shots were fired near the 100 block of Cedarwood Terrace.

While they were investigating, a 20-year-old woman who had been shot at least once in the lower body was dropped off at Rochester General Hospital by a private vehicle. She is also expected to survive.

Several homes about a block away in the 500 block of Garson Avenue ended up getting hit by gunfire during that incident, though no one inside them was hit, according to police.

Later Tuesday night, around 9:30 p.m., police say several more shots were fired on Garson Avenue, striking a home. No one at the location was hit. Police say at this time, they have no evidence the two Garson Avenue incidents are related.

Police say no suspects are in custody for either incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

There have been more than 60 shootings in Rochester so far this year, 16 of them fatal.

There had been 20 homicides at this point in 2021, and there had been more non-fatal shootings. Violent crime is still up compared to previous years.
