3 people, cat and kittens rescued from Lyell Ave boarding house fire
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Three people were rescued from a fire on Lyell Avenue on Thursday.
The Rochester Fire Department says it broke out on the first floor around 1:15 p.m. at 1259 Lyell Ave in a 13-room boarding house.
They say heavy smoke and hoarding conditions made the fire difficult to fight. RFD to help three of the 12 residents in the house escape: One from the first floor and two from the second. One cat and kittens were also rescued from the building and were being assisted by animal control.
A witness told News10NBC at least one person was pulled out of a window and put into an ambulance.
RFD says one firefighter’s hand was injured, and that firefighter is being treated at the hospital.
