4, including 2 troopers, taken to hospital after chase ends in crash on Dewey Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A suspect, a passenger and two New York State Troopers are in the hospital after a chase ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Dewey Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

U.S. Marshals say they were alerted that a suspect in an "especially brutal" stabbing that happened at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in Niagara County was spotted in Rochester and State Police gave chase.

State Police used a pit maneuver to stop the suspect, then the marshals cut off his retreat.

"The state troopers did a pit move to stop the vehicle in front of 202 Dewey Avenue," said U.S. Marshal Charles Salina. "As you can see, a Marshal’s vehicle also stopped the vehicle from further fleeing. The suspect was taken into custody without incident after this pit move."

The pursuit ended in a crash on Dewey Avenue near Selye Terrace.

One State Police car, the Marshal’s car, a pickup truck, and the suspect’s car all crashed. A minivan also ended up involved, although nobody in that vehicle was hurt.

Salina said the severity of the crime definitely warranted a full-on chase.

"This was an assault first stabbing and we’re not going to let someone run away and evade capture so this was a serious incident," Salina said. "He was obviously a dangerous person for the incident in Niagara County, and as you can see, there was no secret to who we were. We weren’t in plain clothes. There were sheriffs trying to stop him, and he took off, putting innocent civilians in danger."

Dewey is currently closed between Driving Park Avenue and Lakeview Park.

Marshals say the suspect and the passenger, a woman, were taken to Rochester General Hospital with minor injuries, and two troopers who sustained minor injuries in the crash were taken to the hospital as well.

Wednesday night, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office announced the man arrested was 28-year-old Marques Green of Niagara Falls, and that he was charged with one count of first degree assault and one count of third degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Green is in the Niagara County Jail awaiting arraignment.

The Sheriff’s Office says the victim of the stabbing, a 33-year-old Niagara Falls man, was listed in critical condition at the Erie County Medical Center as of Wednesday night.
