BATAVIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — The man will spend between two and six years in prison on charges including grand larceny.
Michael Tomaszewski of Batavia admitted in July of 2020 that he stole money from roughly 100 customers by not going through on his promises.
"These people have been deprived of funds that they entrusted to him for a very important purpose," Genesse County district attorney Kevin Finnell said.
Tomaszewski had initially faced a few hundred counts of illegally stealing money. But earlier in December, he took a plea deal. Part of Tomaszewski’s overall counts include late burials, not putting money into trust accounts, or using it on the headstones or graves people believed they had purchased.
