ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Police said a 4-year-old was nearly hit by a bullet that went through a car window on Monday morning, as the child was in the backseat.

At least one bullet went through the car that was traveling eastbound on Upper Falls Boulevard, with the child and a 25-year-old woman inside. The shattered glass from the backseat window scratched the child in the upper body but no one was shot.

The Rochester Police Department responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. for a person possibly shot. After arrival, RPD learned that the car that the woman was driving approached Widman Street when a vehicle passed her in the same direction and began firing shots.

RPD said the woman drove to the 100 block of First Street after the shooting and called 911. The 4-year-old was treated on that street and released to the family. RPD is investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to call 911.
