Canandaigua teen takes home ‘Princess of America’ title, dedicates time to community causes

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Canandaigua girl brought home a national honor, with a dash of royalty, and community behind it.

13-year-old Gillian Vit was crowned as Princess of America Junior Ambassador, a title she earned after a competition with other girls from across the country. Vit competed in the Princess of America Pageant, which was held in mid-July, and took on a wide range of challenges ranging from interviews to on-stage performances.

As a national titleholder, Gillian received several bonuses including a crown, trophy, cash scholarship, and travel opportunities. But, it’s not just about prizes, as part of the title carries with it some community service.

Vit will spend the next year traveling to other states where she will put on live and virtual performances at nursing and memory care homes, assisted living facilities, and senior residences; hospitals; churches; special events; fundraisers; schools; community centers and attractions; places of business; and other venues.

She will make several media appearances to promote the benefits of music as well as cancer screenings.
