COVID hospitalizations drop in NY for first time since December

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Plenty of people are still coming back positive on COVID tests, but the number hospitalized with the virus in New York state went down on Sunday for the first time in three weeks.

New York recorded just under 12,000 people in the hospital on Jan. 9, which was down nearly 100 from Jan. 8. The last time a decline like that happened was all the way back on Dec. 18.

Since that date, hospitalizations in total have tripled and in the U.S., there have been over 60-million COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Over 840,000 people have died from the virus.
