Dansville bus driver seriously injured after crash, school closed Wednesday

DANSVILLE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Livingston County Sheriff’s Office said a school bus driver sustained life-threatening injuries after his bus crashed with a parked bus on Tuesday. The incident prompted school officials to cancel school on Wednesday.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency personnel responded to the Dansville Central School Bus Garage located on North Main Street in the Town of North Dansville, for a motor vehicle crash involving two school buses.

The operator of the school bus, Walter E. Greek, 75, from Arkport, NY, was attempting to park the school bus after completing a charter run when he suffered a medical event causing him to go unresponsive.

The bus that Greek was operating collided with another parked, unoccupied school bus, causing that school bus to overturn. Neither bus involved in the crash was carrying any students.

As of Wednesday, April 6 at 12 p.m., Greek is listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The Dansville Central School District announced that it will be closed on Wednesday so that deputies could have more time to investigate the incident and to give staff and families time to process the incident. To read the press release that DCSD sent out, please click here.
