ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – The Rochester Fire Department reports a dog and cat were killed in a Wednesday morning fire.

No people were injured in the fire, which broke out in the Charlotte neighborhood at 27 Irene St. When firefighters arrived just before 8:30 a.m., there was heavy smoke and fire on the first floor of the house. No one was inside the home, but firefighters did find two pets.

Attempts to resuscitate the dog and cat were unsuccessful. The fire department got the fire under control in 20 minutes and they deemed the home unlivable. The Red Cross assisted the two adults that the fire displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
