WOODBOURNE, N.Y. (WETM/WHEC) — Eric Smith, who was 13 when he murdered a Steuben County toddler, is set to be released from prison next Wednesday after spending 27-years in prison.

According to our Elmira affiliate, WETM, Smith does not have an "approved residence" as of Friday.

Smith, who is now 41, made national headlines after killing 4-year-old Derrick Robie in 1993.

He confessed to strangling a little boy, beating him with rocks and molesting him with sticks near his Savona home.

He was sentenced to nine years to life in prison.

Last month he was granted parole after it was previously denied 10 times.
