GENEVA, N.Y. (WHEC)— A fire at Three Brothers Winery and Estates in Geneva is under investigation.
The fire happened Monday evening inside the Bagg Dare Wine company which is a building on the property. Ovid fire officials say No one was hurt and no one was inside of the building at the time of the fire. The building is a total loss.
Along with the Ovid Fire Department, other emergency crews were also on scene, including Varrick Fire Department, and Border City Fire. Varrick Fire Department Chief, Jeffrey Case, says, it took a while to put the fire out because of the heavy wind.
“It took a couple hours but the wind was a big factor in this one. Aside from the cold the wind just pushes the fire so hard that it feeds fuel Unlimited fuel and what oxygen so it’s very hard to put it out.”
The Three Brothers Winery released a statement on social media, it says “As you may have heard, we had a fire this evening at Three Brothers Wineries and Estates in our beloved Bagg Dare Wine Company. Thankfully, no one was hurt and no one was in the building at the time. We are heartbroken at the destruction of the famed structure, its history and the authentic memorabilia inside, but we are grateful to the local fire department and all others who arrived so quickly to help. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers as we work through this. We will be closed as usual tomorrow and Wednesday and will provide updates as we learn more.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
