ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— A firefighter was taken to the hospital to be checked out following a two-alarm fire on Rochester’s southwest side Friday morning.

Crews went to a home on Lenox Street just off Genesee Street around 4 a.m.

Firefighters tell us a man who has trouble hearing was inside at the time, he saw the fire and was able to text it in. He got out safely along with a dog he was pet sitting.

Neither were hurt. The firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

RFD says the second alarm was called due to the amount of fire showing, plus, the warm and humid conditions.

Crews say the home has a lot of damage and the cause is under investigation.
