ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – The first full weekend of summer will feel like it highs near 90 and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon.

Today will be a great Summer day with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Today will also feature plenty of sunshine, but be mindful as the UV index will have a value of 9 which means that sunburn can occur in as little as 20 minutes. If you’re looking to cool off this afternoon we are looking good from Lake Ontario to the Finger Lakes with no hazards to report.

Tomorrow, we will be even warmer with highs in the low 90s, but an approaching cold front will bring us a chance for a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Storms look to begin to pop in the early afternoon hours before the best chance for a storm comes around 4/5 in the afternoon.

In terms of strong storms, a gusty storm is possible but widespread damaging storms are not expected. This is due to the lack of moisture across our region. Dew points will not increase much through the day Sunday until the front approaches late Sunday evening.

This will keep the thunderstorm energy limited tomorrow afternoon/evening which is why no alert is up and why we don’t expect widespread severe storms. The cold front will swing through late Sunday and bring us cooler air for the beginning of the work week ahead.

A shower is possible early Monday, but things really clear out quickly. Highs early this week, with the cool air moving back in, will be in the mid 70s. That does not last too long through as another big warm up with highs near 90 once again is expected towards the end of the week.

Then, next weekend is already Fourth of July weekend! Looking at the weather for next weekend, it does look like a shower or storm will be possible Saturday before things dry out by the fourth. Timing of the front is still uncertain but we do look dry and warm for the fourth as of now.
