ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — If you’ve been patiently (or impatiently) waiting for the warmer air, your wait is over.

Temperatures begin to climb through the 40s into the 50s overnight as a southerly wind increases. The weather story Thursday will be warmer air and windy. A wind out of the south will blow at 15-25 mph, gusting to 40 mph for a period. This isn’t enough to produce outages in most cases, but it will be enough to annoy you!

This will also help to push air temperatures into the upper 60s and lower 70s, at least for a few hours during the afternoon. A few passing showers are likely on Thursday, with a few thundershowers possible during the afternoon. The best chance of a thunderstorm with some gusty winds will be in the central Finger Lakes and Pennsylvania. We do not anticipate gusty thunderstorms in the Rochester area or Western Finger Lakes. Our warmth will be short-lived. Cooler air will filter in by evening, dropping us back into the 50s, with most of the area waking up Friday morning in the 30s with some snow showers. We’ll go from a warm wind on Thursday, to a brisk breeze on Friday, making the upper 30s and lower 40s feel much cooler. Any snow showers Friday will have a tough time accumulating but will leave the roads wet at times.

The weekend: Saturday will see some sunshine, with increasing clouds later in the day. Temperatures will be a little cooler than average, hitting the mid-40s, but we’ll be dry. Sunday will feature more clouds, slightly cooler air and the slight chance of a passing rain or wet snow shower. Overall, not a bad weekend, but Saturday will end up the better day to be outside.

Temperatures will begin to trend slightly warmer than average as we get into the first week of April next week, but don’t expect temperatures in the 70s for a little bit. Our next storm of interest will arrive toward the middle part of next week, with periods of rain.
