ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— News10NBC’s Brennan Somers recently got a Good Question about a puzzling case in Rochester.
It’s been nearly a month since firefighters got the call for a fire at Immanuel Baptist Church on Park Avenue. A viewer named Bob sent this message: "What happened? Even if the police haven’t released any new information, don’t you owe us something?"
We’ve been trying to get more info because there are questions over the circumstances leading up to the fire. Pre-pandemic, the church was a hub for the community. It hosted services for different denominations, fitness classes, and even art groups.
All of that was canceled due to COVID, in person at least.
Those events at the church are now virtual. So it’s not clear why anyone would’ve been at the church the night before the fire or the morning of back on Oct. 29. That day, firefighters traced the source of the fire to the basement. It was hard to see anything and full of smoke.
They kept searching, and that’s when they found a body. The fire department hasn’t said anything more about the victim.
Somers did follow up with RFD to try to get some more answers. Firefighters say this case is still open and remains under investigation.
No more updates for now, and we will, of course, keep you posted.
