BATAVIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State Police say a Honeoye man behind a scary case of wrong-way driving on the Thruway early Thursday morning was drunk.

It happened at around 2 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Batavia.

Troopers got multiple calls of someone going east and almost hitting other cars.

They say the car then crossed over the median into the eastbound lanes, and finally stopped on the shoulder.

The driver, 46-year-old Pietro Russo, was taken into custody.

Troopers say his blood alcohol content was found to be 0.22%, which is almost three times the legal limit.

Russo was charged with aggravated DWI, turned over to a sober third party and released with a ticket to appear in the Town of Le Roy court at a later date.
