ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – The last officer killed in this city was Daryl Pierson.

Back in September 2014, Pierson was shot while on-duty as he chased Thomas Johnson III on Hudson Avenue, which is about a quarter mile from where last night’s shooting took place. Pierson was 32 years old. Johnson was sentenced to life in prison.

In 2017, officer Jeremy Nash was shot on North Street, about one mile from last night’s shooting. About a year before Officer Pierson was killed, Officer Flamur Zenelovic was shot at the intersection of North Goodman and Yates streets.

In 2009, officers Luca Martini and Dan Brochu were shot at an apartment on Driving Park Avenue, about two miles from last night’s shooting, and Officer Anthony Diponzio was shot on Dayton Street.

The shootings of Officer Mazurkiewicz, Officer Pierson, and Officer Diponzio were all just a few blocks away from each other.
