In-Depth: RPD finalize protest policy

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Mayor Malik Evans and Interim Police Chief David Smith announced in April that the RPD has developed a series of new policies and procedures that they say will ensure citizens’ rights to fairly and safely exercise their First Amendment right to protest.

These procedures have been in place since April, as the department continued to work on finalizing the specific language of the policy. That policy, General Order 680, was disseminated last week to all members of the Rochester Police Department and was added to the open data portal earlier this week.
