ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — More than 1,000 officers traveled from across the country—even from north of the border—to pay their respects to fallen Officer Mazurkiewicz.

Law enforcement representing New York City, Boston, and Dallas just to name a few, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with RPD to honor the life of Tony Mazurkiewicz.

We talked to officers from the Toronto suburb of Peel, Canada, about the importance of supporting a fallen officer who lost their life while on duty.

"While it doesn’t happen that often in any one service, it’s the type of camaraderie and the brotherhood you saw today that makes it truly special, and it’s all the individual efforts of the officers and the services that support to the service that lost a member and to the family that lost a family member," said Sgt. Nigel Smedmor, Peel Regional Police.

Sgt. Smedmor told us members of his department have traveled to funerals on both coasts in America, as well as in Canada.
