Livingston County man accused of fatally shooting pit bull

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Livingston County man is facing a felony animal cruelty charge after he allegedly shot and killed a dog.

Deputies responded to a home on Spring Road South in the town of West Sparta on June 23 to investigate the report of a dog shot.

Edward D. Carswell, 56, of West Sparta, is accused of shooting an 11-year-old pit bull in the back of the head with a .22 caliber rifle after the dog allegedly had an aggressive past.

Deputies arrested Carswell on June 25 and charged him with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Carswell was arraigned and issued an appearance ticket.
