CALEDONIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A man is under arrest after the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office said he threw and shook a 2-month-old child, causing the child a head injury.
The child was taken to Strong Hospital for treatment after first responders found him not breathing at a home in the village of Caledonia last Thursday. The child is in guarded condition.
Zachary McCaa, 26, has been charged with the reckless assault of a child, announced the sheriff on Tuesday.
The Caledonia Police Department and an emergency medical team responded to the 911 call for the child not breathing at 3:20 p.m. They found the child in grave condition at the Iroquois Road home.
A joint investigation from police and sheriff’s deputies, and Strong Hospital staff led to the questioning of McCaa, who was the child’s sole caregiver. Investigators believe that McCaa threw the child and violently shook him on more than one occasion. He was arrested on Friday and is being held in jail on $25,000 bail.
