ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Local families in need will now have some new handmade beds to look forward to, thanks to a team of volunteers.

Beyond the Sanctuary – a local organization aimed at helping people in the community gathered a team of people together Saturday to build beds for children in Rochester that need them.

Volunteers worked to sand wood and assemble headboards, as well as other tasks.

All in all, 20 beds were built.

"We always look for opportunities to partner with other organizations, to do good in the community," Beyond the Sanctuary President Carmen Allen said. "Obviously, you can do more and have a bigger impact if you work together, and what better opportunity than to build beds for children that are currently sleeping on the floor or in chairs and don’t have a nice comfortable place to sleep at night, which obviously impacts how they do at school and everything else."

The beds will be delivered to children over the coming weeks.
