Low-cost insulin could be available by 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – A non-profit drug maker says it hopes to have low-cost insulin available by 2024.
Civica is awaiting federal approval for its generic versions of the expensive drug. The insulins will be available in vials and prefilled pens at no more than $30 per vial or $55 for a box of five pens.
News10NBC recently reported on increasing insulin costs that are forcing some diabetics to get without proper medication.
Thursday, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield announced it was joining Civica’s initiative. Formed in 2018, Civica is a non-profit collaborative of several health systems aimed at reducing drug costs.
