Man and woman are hospitalized after early morning shootings
ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — A man and a woman are in the hospital after shootings on Sunday morning in Rochester. Both are expected to survive.
The Rochester Police Department responded to two calls at around 2.30 a.m. Officers responded to Alphonse Street near Thomas Street after people reported hearing gunfire. Upon arrival, the officers found a 36-year-old man with at least one gunshot wound to the lower body and an ambulance took him to Strong Hospital.
There are no suspects in custody but police have identified a person of interest.
The second call RPD responded to was for shots fired on Ferncliffe Drive near Clifford Avenue. After arrival, officers found out that a private vehicle had taken a 28-year-old woman to Strong Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. An investigation determined multiple shots had been fired around Ferncliffe, which is where the woman was shot.
The investigation is still ongoing and no suspects are in custody.
Overnight, RPD also found evidence of gunfire on the 100 block of Joseph Avenue but didn’t find any victims. Officers were in the area at around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday for an unrelated call when they hear the gunfire and began investigating.
