Missing jet skier found dead

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of a missing jet skier on Thursday morning.

On June 23, 2022, at approximately 08:00 a.m., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office SCUBA and Marine Units located a deceased man in Lake Ontario near Durand Beach. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the individual as Onofhil “Tony” Nieves.

Nieves went missing on Saturday after police got a call around 10 a.m. that the jet skier was in distress around Rock Beach Road. Rescue teams were able to recover what they believe is his jet ski.
