GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester-area schools are trying to make sure kids aren’t bringing COVID back from Christmas.

Greece Central School District had over 3,000 test kits to give away to students to be doubly sure they’re COVID negative before heading back to class Monday. Kits were handed out at the West Ridge Elementary School. Hundreds of cars were lined up, and each parent got a test kit per Greece student. School officials say they handed out test kits to every school before the holiday break so each student went on vacation with a test in their backpack.

"When families have test kits in hand it’s easier to get them tested rather than looking for appointments in the county so we want them to have them at home any time there is a symptom on set,” said Kelly Sperduto, the district’s community schools coordinator,

Greece school officials say they got word from the state that they will be receiving more test kits in the coming days.
