ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A new performing arts center opened in Rochester Thursday called The Theater at Innovation Square.
The theater is the new home for Garth Fagan Dance, the Rochester City Ballet, and the Sonic Era Jazz Orchestra.
Their first performance aligns with next week’s Fringe Festival, and next June, they’ll host performances of the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival.
Marc Iacona, the executive director of the Jazz Festival has also served as an advisor for the creators of the new theater.
"Today’s a good day for Rochester," Iacona said. "Just envision the magic that will be created here on this stage for thousands and thousands of audience members. the diversity of the programming. that’s what it’s all about, a community place that people will be able to use as a venue and afford to use as a venue. In my opinion, the end in mind is quality of life."
The renovated theater is located at the corner of Chestnut and Broad Streets and was once the Xerox Auditorium.
