ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — People who need to find a new home for their pets have new help available to them. The Rochester City Animal Services Division added the Home To Home™ tool which helps families who can no longer keep their pets avoid surrendering them to a shelter.

The online tool allows direct communication between current and prospective owners.

The Home To Home™ website helps re-home dogs, cats and other animals. Current pet owners fill out a brief form and upload a picture. The website also has a search feature for those seeking to adopt a pet.

Home To Home™ pet postings will be promoted on the Rochester Animal Services and Verona Street Animal Society Facebook page to promote "Home to Home" pets in their posts to help generate additional interest.

Animals can still be surrendered directly to the shelter by calling to make an appointment at 585-428-7274.

The city’s participation in Home To Home™ is the result of a Maddie’s Fund Grant, #ThankstoMaddie.
