ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — A New York-based group that fights against drunk driving is backing a bill aimed to cut down on the state’s legal limit for driving after drinking alcohol.

Remove Intoxicated Drivers told WNYT it stands behind the bill, currently in the Assembly, which would lower the limit on your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) from .08% to 0.5%.

The group says about 38% of all deaths on state highways and roads are alcohol-related. State Police say there is an injury every two minutes caused by drunk driving.

By lowering the limit, the group said it would mean most people can have one drink before reaching that threshold.
