Ogden PD chief to retire in September

OGDEN, N.Y. (WHEC) – Ogden Police Chief Christopher Mears announced his retirement Thursday after a 27-year career with the Ogden Police Department.

Mears’ final day of police service will be Sunday, Sept. 18. OPD will appoint an interim police chief while the Town of Ogden conducts its search for a new chief.

“It has been such an honor to serve as Chief of this amazing group of police officers, civilian staff and volunteers,” the chief said. “I’m grateful to the community for the support I have received, and for the overwhelming support for this Department."

Mears was named chief in 2015. Throughout his tenure, he was a K9 handler and sergeant and attended the FBI National Academy Session 239.

"I’m looking forward to new challenges and opportunities, but I will dearly miss working with my brother and sister officers and my fellow Chiefs,” Mears said.
