ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— A lockout at a Rochester City School was lifted following a Thursday morning shooting nearby the school.

Police say the shooting happened in the area of Lyell and Saratoga Avenues. A city school district spokesperson confirmed to News10NBC the shots sent John Williams School No.5 into a brief lockout "as a precaution."

Officers told News10NBC a 22-year-old Rochester man was shot and then taken to Highland Hospital in a private vehicle. He was then taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.

The spokesperson said the school was in lockout for about 20-25 minutes.

Police have made no arrests.
