OGDEN, N.Y. (WHEC) — A local manufacturer opened up a big addition to its facility Wednesday.

ProAmpac’s Collaboration and Innovation Center will allow the company to hire 40 new employees.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul was in town for Wednesday’s ribbon cutting.

She said it will have a big impact on reducing the amount of plastic that has to be thrown away.

"This place has found the innovation for the future and they’re making sure they’re all recyclable or reusable,” Hochul said. “They’re really cutting edge, very proud to have them here. They’re hiring graduates from RIT, local high schools, and there’s opportunities for everyone in this community."

The innovation center will focus on packaging development and design and will also host regional and global consumer companies as well as vendors for events and training.
