ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — The new bill would require licensed gun dealers to wait 10 days before giving a gun to the person who bought it.

Also known as a "cooling-off period", it could help save the lives of people experiencing a mental-health crisis who decide on impulse to buy a gun.

Other states around the country have already implemented this law. Those states have reportedly had 51% fewer suicides by gun compared to states without the law.
