ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Rochester Fire Department responded to the report of a fire on Clifford Avenue.

The call came in around 4:30 this afternoon. A passerby reported that they were driving by and that smoke was coming from all the windows and roof. A second caller reported that the property was vacant but 3 children and known to play inside frequently.

Multiple units responded to the scene of the fire and found the vacant home with smoke coming from the first and second floors.

Command received a report from a person on the scene that there were children inside. The female said that she was using GPS and tracking the children, which showed they were inside.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes. Numerous searches of the structure by multiple units found no one trapped inside.

Eventually, the female on the scene reported that the children were found at home playing in the garage. No explanation was given why the GPS reported the wrong location.

Fire response was complicated as units responding to the fire were waved down on Clifford Ave and a motor vehicle accident resulted in 2 cars crashing into houses around the 1900 block of Clifford Ave.

No injuries were reported at the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
