ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A local youth organization is behind a back-to-school giveaway. The Roc Royal Foundation gave out more than 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies on Saturday.
This was the seventh annual Back 2 School Classic Giveaway.
It aims to help at-risk youth and children who may not be able to prepare themselves for class.

Khadija Yawn, Roc Royal Foundation CEO said, "Of course we’re faced with so much violence in the city and different things, um, poverty and things like that. So just letting parents know that we’re here to assist them. We’re here to partner with them and support them and let the kids know that they’re great. They go back to school with a smile on their face. They go with the things they need. So that’s always a plus for us."

The giveaway was held in Brown Square Park for students in kindergarten through grade 12.

Roc Royal is a non-profit supporting youth and families in the Rochester community.
