ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Black Nurses Association is calling on the community to get out and get protected from the coronavirus.

On Saturday, the group held a "Unity in the Community" event with New Beginnings Apostolic Faith Church on Dewey Avenue.

In addition to setting up booths for free COVID-19 testing, and vaccines, the event was also a celebration of the community after a long year of lockdowns and violence.

"We strive for unity in a community that is divided, in a community that has despair. In a community where, it’s sad to say, but we have loss of life after COVID has become an issue with violence and murder and mayhem," Ronald Mathis, Bishop of New Beginnings Apostolic Faith Church said.

The group plans to host another "Unity in the Community" event next year.
