Rochester gas prices remain high, but fall for third week

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Average gas prices in Rochester have fallen for their third week in a row, this time by 3.8 cents, but still remain higher than a year ago.

Gas prices this week averaged $4.24 per gallon, based on a survey of 319 stations in Rochester that GasBuddy released on Monday. That average is $0.15 lower compared to a month ago but still $1.40 higher compared to April of 2021.

The cheapest gas price in Rochester was $3.87 per gallon, recorded on Sunday, while the most expensive was $0.62 higher. Prices were slightly cheaper for stations in Buffalo and Syracuse, by two cents, while prices in New York City were five cents cheaper than in Rochester.

The national average for gas prices also fell but remains $1.21 higher than a year ago.

Consumers statewide may see a decrease in gas prices starting June 1. The 2022 New York State Budget will suspend the state’s gas for seven months, beginning in June, to reduce the price at the pump.
