ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Rochester Police have made an arrest in the city’s 77th homicide of the year and identified the victim.
59-year-old Anthony Lovett was found stabbed to death inside the Mini-mart on 462 Lake Ave, where he was working, around 9:30 Monday morning. Rochester Police now say 29-year-old Jamie Lynn Prescott was taken into custody at the scene. They say Prescott and Lovett were acquantances and became involved in an argument when Prescott stabbed him multiple times in the head and body.
No customers were inside. Police could not initially get into the store because the door was locked, so officers called the Rochester Fire Department to get them in. Lake between Emerson and Phelps Avenue was shut down for several hours during the investigation.
Marion Walters drives for Lyft. By the time we spoke to her, she already knew her friend was killed. Walters: "Yes he took me to McDonald’s Friday and bought me a big breakfast and said ‘oh, I’m going to marry you. You’re missing out on a good man.’ And I was like I don’t want anything like that. Just joking with him. But I didn’t know that was going to be the last time I saw him."
Prescott will be arraigned Tuesday morning.
