ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man was taken to the hospital for evaluation after an incident shut down several blocks in downtown Rochester Tuesday night.

Police went to the scene on Broad Street near Exchange Street after a report of a man sitting on the ledge of a building around 10 p.m. Officers say there were concerns the man would jump.

In addition to an RPD crisis negotiation team, the Monroe County Forensic Intervention Team (FIT) was called in to assist. After roughly two hours, police say the man willingly left the roof to meet with police and the FIT team.

He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for his evaluation, and the area around Broad and Exchange reopened.
