ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) just received a large grant to support free arts programs.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation gave RPO $100,000 to support programs for individuals with dementia and to support their caregivers.

The one-and-a-half-year project will encompass 10 ensemble visits to care facilities, and ten open rehearsals through December of next year that people can attend with their caregivers.

After the pilot program, the orchestra hopes to expand the initiative to include a broader range of conditions, including autism spectrum disorders, complex genetic diseases, PTSD and more.
