ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s (RPO) made its long-awaited return Thursday night. It was the orchestra’s first show in more than 18 months.

It was also the first show by conductor Andreas Delfs.

He was named the RPO’s new music director back in January.

A post-pandemic show was a challenge for the new man in charge, but he said Wednesday that rehearsals had been impressive.

"While we did chamber music and smaller things and people were practicing," Delfs said. "But this is really the first time after such a long break and I’m just bowled over how good the orchestra sounds. It sounds like we played our last big concert in this hall yesterday or last week. It sounds like nothing has happened in between and it makes me very happy."

Anyone who plans on going to see a show this season must have to have proof of vaccination and wear a mask.
