CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) — This week, News10NBC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week is accomplishing some big things in Canandaigua.
"As I started to club through Monster Elite Lacrosse, my club team," said Abbey Herod. "That was when I really started enjoying it."
Since then, Herod has been a force on the lacrosse field. Even as a freshman, the surroundings of older players didn’t slow her down. She took home 1st Team All-County right away and later again her junior year.
"Getting better is really important for me," Herod said. "And I did look up to certain people and like college athletes, and I try to be as good as them."
One of those athletes is her brother, who plays college lax. It’s driven her to rise up.
"And he’s always pushed me like from a very young age to try to compete and he’ll get me outside to do if he wants to play, I got to go with him in the classroom," Herod said.
In the classroom, she’s got an A+ average, juggling that with two sports. It’s no walk in the park.
"Obviously, I got to get my homework done before I can go like practice, like on my free time, like volleyball and stuff like that," Herod said.
That system has worked for Herod so far. It’s helped lead her to Boston College next year, where she’ll continue her lacrosse career.
"Crazy," Herod said. "When I got the offer, I was just like blown away and it just me. Everything just came back to me, all the hard work that I’ve done. It was just amazing to see it all, like, work out for me."
Now she’ll look to do it all again. Congrats to Canandaigua’s Abbey Herod on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
